Another day at the 2011 Canadian Open Fastpitch Futures Gold Tournament and two more close losses for the GB Junior Women in games they could have won. It's nice to be competitive at this level, but it would be even nicer to win some of these games!

GB Junior Men soak up experience at European Championships

Great Britain has sent a Junior (Under-19) Men's Fastpitch Team to European Championships this year for the first time since 2004, and a team that has talent but lacks experience has had a valuable learning experience in their first two games at Kostelec nad Orlici in the Czech Republic.

GB Juniors get first win in Canada, then lose a winnable game

The GB Junior Women's Fastpitch Team picked up its first win at the 2011 Canadian Open Fastpitch Futures Gold Tournament in a crazy game against the Regina Gold from Saskatchewan, then threw away the chance for two wins on the same day when they went down to the Kelowna Heat.

Opening Day at the 2011 Canadian Open Fastpitch Futures Gold Tournament, and the GB Under-19 Women showed that they can live with the competition at this major international event. They lost 9-3 to a strong California team, but the game was much closer than the scoreline suggests.

It was only the first of several games that will be played over the next few weeks between the two best women's fastpitch teams in the world -- the USA and Japan. But Japan's 1-0 win on Saturday, July 9 in the round-robin at the Canadian Open Fastpitch Championship felt like a real shift in momentum.

GB Juniors make make big strides in final warm-up game

It finally came together for the GB Junior (Under-19) Women's Fastpitch Team in their third and final warm-up game before the start of the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Futures Gold Tournament on Monday, July 11 in Surrey, near Vancouver, Canada. GB lost 3-1 to White Rock Renegades 94, but it was a well-played game by both teams and there were lots of positives for GB to take into the tournament proper.

The GB Junior (Under-19) Women's Fastpitch Team broke their scoring duck in their second scrimmage game before the Canadian Open Fastpitch Futures Gold Tournament begins, but gave far too many runs away in suffering a second straight mercy-rule loss.

GB Juniors start to iron out the kinks

Scrimmage games, friendly matches or "exhibition games" as they call them in North America, are designed to help teams solidify their teamwork and get the nerves out of the way when preparing for a major competition. For the GB Under-19 Women's Fastpitch Team, their first exhibition match in Canada, despite the 10-0 scoreline to the opposition, was an important first step in that direction.

It was a long, hard slog of 18 hours to get from London to Vancouver for the GB Under-19 Women's Team -- but now they get to play some of the world's top junior teams and watch women's teams like the US, Japan, Canada and Australia in action.

Softball national and club teams swing into international action in July

International competition gets underway in July and continues into August for five GB Softball national teams and four British club teams, at locations ranging from Canada to Bulgaria and points in between.
