GB Women claim fifth place at the Softball World Cup

The GB Women's Fastpitch Team played out a comfortable 6-1 win over the Czech Republic on July 25 to take the fifth place trophy at the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City. Now the team heads for the European Championships and World Championship Qualifier in Italy.

The GB Women's Fastpitch Team did Great Britain proud on July 24 at the 6th World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City with great efforts against the two best teams in the world, Japan and the USA.

The great Border Battle anti-climax

The much-hyped "Border Battle III" between two teams of very large male slowpitch players representing the US and Canada took place on July 23 at the women's fastpitch World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City, where the GB Women's Team is currently playing. The US won the first Border Battle in 2009 and Canada won in 2010, so this was billed as a rubber match. It turned out to be a huge anti-climax.

GB Slowpitch Team wins eighth straight European Championship—the hard way

GB and Slovenia headed the table going into the Page Playoffs on July 23 at the European Slowpitch Championships in Dupnitsa, Bulgaria. But when Slovenia beat GB in the 1 v 2 Page Playoff game, GB had to fight their way back to the final. Once there, they showed their class, annihilating the Slovenians in five innings to win their eighth straight European title.

GB Women win the Battle of Europe

Karlene Headley-Cooper drove a single between first and second base in the bottom of the seventh inning with the bases loaded and two outs to give the GB Women's Fastpitch Team its first win at the World Cup of Softball, a 3-2 victory over the Czech Republic in the battle of European teams.

GB Slowpitch takes care of business in Bulgaria

GB and Slovenia finished the group stage of the 2011 European Slowpitch Championships in Dupnitsa, Bulgaria tied at the top of the group with nine wins and one loss each. Ireland made the Page Playoffs by coming third at 6-4 and the host Bulgarians took the last playoff spot with a 3-7 record, just ahead of the Czech Republic and Germany.

GB Women scare the life out of Canada

The GB Women's Fastpitch Team looked good in their opening game in the World Cup of Softball against Australia on July 21. On July 22, they looked even better in losing by only 6-4 to the world's #3 team, Canada. And had two plays in the game gone differently, GB might well have won.

Austrian team pulls out of European Slowpitch Cup

The Austrian team WBV Homerunners have made a late pull-out from the European Slowpitch Cup, scheduled for August 3-6 in the Czech Republic, which means the competition is down to the minimum, four teams.

GB and Slovenia share the lead after Day 3 at the European Slowpitch Championships

The GB Co-ed Slowpitch Team duly got its revenge on Slovenia on Day 3 at the European Slowpitch Championships for the defeat suffered on Day 2. Now, with one more day of round-robin games to go, GB and Slovenia are tied at the top of the standings, and two teams will join them in the Page Playoffs that will be played on Saturday, July 23.

GB Women suffer tough-luck loss to Australia at the World Cup

There was very little to choose between the GB Women's Fastpitch Team and Team Australia when they met on the opening day of the 6th World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City on July 21. Australia won 7-1, but the game should have been a lot closer and the Australians had most of the luck.
