Baseball and softball present unified vision for the 2020 Olympic Games

The leaders of the new World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), an organisation formed by merging the International Baseball Federation (IBAF) and the International Softball Federation (ISF), presented their unified vision for the inclusion of baseball and softball in the 2020 Olympic Games to the IOC's Olympic Programme Commission on December 19 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

IBAF and ISF agree on name for combined Federation

Following the historic votes of the International Baseball Federation (IBAF) and International Softball Federation (ISF) this autumn approving the formation of a unified international federation, IBAF and ISF leaders have announced the name of the new international federation that will govern both baseball and softball together: the World Baseball Softball Confederation.

First GB youth fastpitch team trial on 8 December

The first of two open trials for selection to GB Under-19 and Under-16 youth fastpitch teams for 2013 competitions will be held as part of the Academy Softball and GB training sessions scheduled for Saturday, December 8 and moved from Milton Keynes to Uxbridge because of the unavailability of the Dome at Milton Keynes. A second trial be held on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Milton Keynes. To be eligible for selection, GB-based players must attend at least one of the two trials.

British softball community loses two members

The British softball community has suffered two very sad losses over the past few days, with news of the deaths of Manchester Thunder and GB Slowpitch Team player Zak Haq, and former Slammers and GB Women's Fastpitch Team player Fleur Edgerton-Meyer, who has lived and played softball in France for the past decade.

Change to Academy and GB Softball on 8-9 Dec

Due to circumstances beyond BSUK's control, the Dome at Milton Keynes will not be available for Academy Softball sessions on Saturday, 8 December or for GB Softball training on Sunday, 9 December. Click through for alternative arrangements for that weekend.

Stan Doney appointed to joint BSF-BSUK position

Stan Doney, currently BSUK's Regional Coach and Club Development Officer for the South East, has been appointed to a new BSUK staff position that will be funded jointly by BSUK and the BSF. The new role, which will start December 1, will be that of Development Officer and Softball Programmes Manager, and will include oversight over all softball national team programmes. In addition, the BSF has announced a number of other appointments related to national teams.

Argentina wins its first Softball World Championship

Argentina was crowned as a Softball World Champion on November 11 for the first time in its history after beating Japan 5-0 in the final game of the ninth ISF Junior Men's World Championship played in Parana, Argentina.

Letter to the IOC from the ISF and IBAF

International Softball Federation President Don Porter and International Baseball Federation President Riccardo Fraccari have written a joint letter to Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee, to confirm that the two sports are complying with IOC conditions for potential reinstatement to the Olympic programme.

ISF Congress approves ISF merger with IBAF

A Special Congress held by the International Softball Federation (ISF) on October 30 in Houston, Texas has voted with 71% in favour to combine with the International Baseball Federation (IBAF) to establish a new International Federation for softball and baseball, to be called the International Confederation of Softball and Baseball (ICSB).
