Pioneers pull out of European Slowpitch Cup

The Pioneers, Britain's 2011 co-ed slowpitch National Champions, have had to pull out of the 2012 European Slowpitch Cup because the tournament clashes with the London Olympics and too many Pioneers players have tickets!

British slowpitch teams invited to Bulgarian tournament in April

The BSF has received an invitation for British teams to take part in a Bulgarian Open Championship tournament to be played, probably in Dupnitsa, on the weekend of April 21-22.

“Spring Into Softball” Sportivate course to be hosted by Leeds Dynamite

Leeds Dynamite Softball Club will be running a six-week softball beginners' course for players under 19 years of age on Monday nights in Central Leeds, starting on February 20, funded by Sport England through its Sportivate programme.

BSF to run Corporate Softball Workshop for leagues at AGM

Promoting and running local corporate softball events, with support from BSUK, can be a good way for slowpitch leagues to find new members and make some money. The BSF will be running a workshop session at the 2012 AGM on February 18 in Manchester designed to help leagues take on this activity.

Indoor softball comes to the Second City

The Birmingham Bobcats will be offering indoor softball sessions for the first time in the UK's second city this winter and spring. Starting on January 10, ten indoor sessions will be run at the Kingsbury School and Sports College in Erdington on Tuesday evenings from 7.00-8.00 pm.

Manchester Softball League Head Harry Somers and Merseyside baseball legend Norman Wells have been selected as two of the 8,000 people who will carry the Olympic Torch throughout the country next year before it reaches its place of honour in Olympic Park.

Twenty-eight different countries take part in European Softball Federation Championships and Cup competitions in fastpitch and slowpitch, and Great Britain and the Czech Republic are the leading nations in Europe with regard to the number of tournaments entered.

Shafters Indoor Winter League flourishes in its debut season

A new indoor softball league, set up and run in the Portsmouth area by the UPSU Shafters, brought together five local teams, including the Shafters, to provide competition experience over the winter months. The league has been a success, and the title was won by the Hursley Hurricanes.

BSF holds productive League Heads Forum

The annual Softball League Heads Forum, held on Saturday, November 26 in Birmingham, considered the future development of softball in the UK, including umpire and coach training, and welcomed detailed proposals on extending the National Softball League to a second division.
