Great Britain's U15 Women's Softball Team finished off the European Championships on Saturday with a 4-3 loss to Ukraine. With a 2-2 record in Group G, Great Britain finishes eighth in the largest-ever U15 European Championships, with a record 14 participating teams.
In their final game againt Ukraine, Great Britain fell behind in the first inning before tying the game at 1 in the second when Natalie Gordon scored on Brynlee Armstrong's single to centre field. The Ukranian side, however, would add three runs in the bottom of the second, and despite a fourth inning that saw Armstrong drive in both Gordon and Carmen Arrevillagas, Great Britain were unable to tie the game again. Armstrong pitched 4 scoreless innings of relief, striking out two and allowing just three hits.
With the 2-2 result in Group G, Great Britain finishes with a 3-3 record at the European Championships.
Standout performers for the Brits at the Europeans include...
- Natalie Gordon, who led the team with 9 hits, good for a .563 batting average (6th at the Europeans); she also led the team with 20 strikeouts in the circle (7th at Euros) while walking only one (best among qualified pitchers) acrtoss 16.1 innings.
- Brynlee Armstrong, who held opponents to a .241 batting average against in the circle across 15 innings pitched, 6th at the Euros.
The next U15 European Championships is scheduled for 2028, while next year will be a massive one for Great Britain Softball - with the Senior European Championships (25-31 July 2027) in Stuttgart followed by the Europe/Africa Olympic Qualifier (Dates TBD in Barcelona, ESP). Great Britain's U18s will also head to Europe for the U18 European Championships in Hluboká nad Vltavou, Czechia, with July dates to be announced.
