BaseballSoftballUK has completed the line-up of keynote speakers for its fourth annual Coach Summit by announcing that the softball keynote speaker will be former US Division 1 college player and Head Coach Ali Higgs.

Ali joins long-time St John’s University Head Baseball Coach Ed Blankmeyer, who will be the baseball keynote speaker on an outstanding conference programme.

The 2019 Coach Summit will be held on Saturday 26 January 2019 at the Kents Hill Park Training & Conference Centre in Milton Keynes, and will consist of keynote speeches, discussions, workshops and seminars for baseball and fastpitch softball coaches, with content of interest for slowpitch coaches as well.

The general theme of this year's Summit will be “Preparing for the Future of Baseball and Softball in the UK”, in a year in which the GB Women’s Fastpitch Team and the GB Baseball Team will be trying to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, and Major League Baseball will be coming to London for the first time.

Background

Ali Higgs was a four-year starter and record holder at Division I Iona College in New Rochelle, New York, where she established pitching records for appearances, wins, ERA, strikeouts and shutouts.

She also holds Iona records for at-bats and hits and ranks second all-time in home runs.  Ali was the first softball player in school history to be inducted into the Iona College Hall of Fame.

Following her college career, Ali played in the National Pro Fastpitch League for the New York Juggernaut and Philadelphia Force, and also played and ran clinics in Australia.

Her coaching career was centered around Jacksonville University, where she was an Assistant Coach for five years and obtained a Masters Degree in Business Administration before becoming an unusually young Head Coach at the Division 1 school while still in her 20s.

Ali now owns and runs a coaching business called Backwards K Jax, which offers college exposure camps, recruiting consultation, performance training, strength and conditioning workouts, coaching clinics, team camps and mental conditioning and sports psychology training.
