Registration is now open for anyone who wants to play in the Great Britain Fastpitch League (GBFL) in 2019 – and that includes experienced fastpitch players and slowpitch or baseball players who want to give it a go.

The GBFL is fun, friendly, fast-paced and welcoming, and though you probably need to have played softball or baseball before to take part, you don’t need to have played fastpitch.  Players new to fastpitch will get plenty of help and coaching along the way.

All GBFL games will be played on the diamonds at Farnham Park Baseball and Softball Complex near Slough.

Registration for the league will be open until Friday 15 March.

Well-established

The GBFL is now an established part of the British softball scene.  The league has a Women’s Division and a Men’s Division, and games are played on Saturdays during the early part of the season, from late April through early June, with additional dates in 2019 in September and October.

GBFL dates are set so that they don’t conflict with major slowpitch tournaments or with baseball league games, which is why there are many slowpitch and baseball players in the league.

The winners of each division are eligible to enter European Women’s and Men’s Cup competitions in the following season, as is the runner-up in the Women’s Division.

Dates

This year, the GBFL will have 6 playing dates, with both the Women’s and Men’s Divisions playing on the same dates:

  • Saturday 27 April at Farnham Park
  • Saturday 4 May at Farnham Park
  • Saturday 11 May at Farnham Park
  • Saturday 25 May at Farnham Park
  • Saturday 1 June at Farnham Park
  • Saturday 12 October at Farnham Park

The expectation is that in 2019 the league will consist of four women’s teams and three men’s teams.

Registration

All players are asked to register for the GBFL as individuals, whether they are already a member of a GBFL team or an individual willing to be assigned to a new team or a team needing more players.  Players can register by going to www.fastpitchsoftball.co.uk.

The budget for the league is still being worked out and won’t be finalised until the final number of teams are known, but costs per player for the full GBFL season are likely to be around £12 per day.  Players will pay a fee to the team they play for, which in turn will pay a league fee, and the money will cover pitch hire, umpire costs, balls, trophies and BSF affiliation fees.
