Registration is now open for what is planned to be a bigger and better Great Britain Fastpitch League (GBFL) outdoor season in 2020.

Players should register regardless of whether they are already a member of a GBFL team or are registering as a new player and want to be assigned to a team in the Women’s or Men’s Division.  All players need to be registered in order to play, and the registration form can be found on this link.

Any new team wishing to enter the league should email: admin@fastpitchsoftball.co.uk.

Fast and fun

The GBFL is fun, friendly, fast-paced and welcoming, and though you probably need to have played softball or baseball before to take part, you don’t need to have played fastpitch.  Players new to fastpitch will get plenty of help and coaching along the way.

Now an established part of the British softball scene, the GBFL has a Women’s Division and a Men’s Division, and GBFL dates are set so that they don’t conflict with major slowpitch tournaments.

The winners of each division are eligible to enter European Women’s and Men’s Cup competitions in the following season, as is the runner-up in the Women’s Division.

Registration for the league will remain open throughout the season, as players can join the GBFL at any time, but anyone who already intends to play in the league this year should register no later than 29 February.

Dates

GBFL games will be played in 2020 on the following dates:

Saturday 4 April
Saturday 2 May
Saturday 23 May
Saturday 30 May
Saturday 27 June
Sunday 26 July
Saturday 3 October

All GBFL game days will be at the Farnham Park Baseball & Softball Complex north of Slough (SL2 3BP).  Dedicated diamonds are booked for each game day but a couple of games on some of the dates may be played on grass.

The league fee to be paid by players will be determined once it’s clear how many teams and players will take part, but it’s likely to be around £80 per player for the full season.

You can find out more information about the coming season on the GBFL website (www.fastpitchsoftball.co.uk) or the league’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Great-Britain-Fastpitch-League-387058423520).

Indoor Fastpitch League

In order to provide more playing opportunities and a steady development of competitive fastpitch around the country, new BSUK/BSF Fastpitch Development Manager Alyson Spinas-Valainis is planning to launch two new Indoor Fastpitch Leagues this year, one for the slowpitch community and one for the fastpitch community, run on separate days but both using a Fully Loaded rule set in modified short-format fastpitch games.

Alyson said, “We hope to give developing players an opportunity to play more fastpitch outside the GBFL, and for those players to get an opportunity to play with and against players they normally wouldn’t find inside the GBFL.  Because this is a new programme and league, I encourage people not to be deterred by a new set of rules or fastpitch in general and think of giving it a go!”

To gauge interest in the proposed Indoor Fastpitch League, a survey has been created on this link: https://bsuk.wufoo.com/forms/mzqqel10q2hakz/.  All players who might be interested are urged to complete and submit the survey by Monday 27 January.
