The 2012 BSUK AstroSeries indoor softball tournament was held on Saturday 24 March at Play On Sports in Canary Wharf.  Mescalitos were the champions on the day, going undefeated with an 8-0 record.

The AstroSeries is the culminating event of the BSUK London Indoor Softball League, which helps softball teams keep fit throughout the winter months. Mescalitos were a force to be reckoned with all season long, winning the Comp Division play in both the pre- and post-Christmas seasons. Overall, Mescalitos were 47-4 from October 2011 through March 2012 including the AstroSeries.

OVERALL RESULTS

Following preliminary play, four teams, including Mescalitos, advanced to the Comp Division while the other six teams played in a two-pool Rec Division.

COMP DIVISION (following morning play):

Mescalitos, Blue Steel, SPAM, Spargels

REC DIVISION (following morning play):

Tea & Biscuits, Los Melones, Diamonds, Meteors, Pink Panthers, Chumps

Blue Steel were the Comp runners-up, finishing the day with a 6-2 record and scoring 200 runs while conceding just 6 (for a differential of 194)! They faced off with Mescalitos in the final, which proved to be a close-fought affair.

Tea & Biscuits won the afternoon's Rec final, defeating Los Melones by a score of 29-1.

COMP FINAL

Mescalitos +3
Blue Steel -2

They say that offence wins you games but it is defence that wins you championships. So it should be no surprise that the Comp Final produced the lowest overall score of the day with both side's defences dominating throughout.

Mescalitos held a slender lead after the first inning and, batting first, set Blue Steel a target of +3 after the second. Blue Steel rallied to move within touching distance and, with the seconds ticking down, tensions threatened to boil over as tempers flared following a disputed tag at first base.

As the dust settled and play resumed Mescalitos managed to stay strong and held off the fightback to claim the AstroSeries title.
