Wednesday 15 August -- The GB Under-13 London Cubs took on Moscovia 1 from Russia this morning in the opening game for both teams at the annual European Massimo Romeo Youth Trophy (EMRYT) competition in Collecchio, Italy, and GB came out on the wrong end of a 10-3 scoreline.

Georgia Wilson pitched well for the Cubs, walking only two batters over three innings and hitting two others, but without issuing any wild pitches (four different Russian pitchers walked seven Cubs and had five wild pitches).  But the Russians did have 10 hits, and that allowed them to score twice in the bottom of the first inning, twice in the second inning, and six times in the third inning on six hits.

The London Cubs had only four hits in the game and weren’t able to dent the scoreboard until the mounted a rally in the top of the fourth inning.

Parya Myshlen came in to pitch for Moscovia at the start of the fourth inning, and the Cubs took advantage of a number of walks and an RBI single by Megan Longman to score three runs, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap.

Other Cubs’ hits during the game were two singles by Cordelia Stevens and one by Campbell Lazar, as everyone on the Cubs’ roster got into the game and had a taste of the competition, which will conclude on Saturday.

On Thursday 16 August, the Cubs will play two games – against Italy 2 at 11.15 am Italian time, and then against the Brabant Bandits from the Netherlands under the lights at 8.00 pm.
