Twenty men’s teams and 10 women’s teams contested the BSF’s 2017 Single-Sex Slowpitch National Championships on the weekend of 8-9 July at Moor Lane Sports Ground in Perry Barr, Birmingham.

Men’s Tournament

The 20 men’s teams started off with 10 teams in Comp and 10 in Rec, but these broke down into four divisions – Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze – by the time the trophies were given out on Sunday.

The Men’s Comp Division played with a six home run limit, but as the fences were set at 300 feet, this didn’t seem to come into play.

Two US military teams from air bases in Suffolk entered the tournament, and came first and second in the Men’s Platinum Division, with RAF Lakenheath prevailing over their compadres from RAF Mildenhall.

Latinoamerica from Manchester won the Men’s Gold trophy, the Misfits from the East Midlands were Silver winners and the Bobcats from Birmingham captured Bronze.

A list of winners, runners-up and MVPs is below.

Women’s Tournament

The Women’s Tournament had only three Comp teams and seven Rec teams, so all played in one competition, with a limit of five runs per inning in force for Comp teams against a Rec opponent.

This didn’t seem to affect results, as the only victory by a Rec team over a Comp team was an 11-5 win by the Missfits over the Minx.

The 10 teams eventually divided into three separate competitions, and the Besoms from Scotland took the Gold trophy, the Sheriffs from East Midlands won Silver and the Rebel Bases from Glasgow prevailed in the Bronze Division.
