   IOC President, Jacques Rogge

International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge, speaking at the 2012 SportAccord Convention in Quebec City, Canada on 25 May, continued to hold out the possibility that a joint bid for Olympic reinstatement by baseball and softball could be considered by the IOC.

Then again, Rogge wasn't making any promises.  "We will examine the memorandum of understanding that the two Federations [the International Baseball and Softball Federations] will send us and we will come back to them as soon as possible. But yes, a joint bid between baseball and softball is a possibility.

"We will make changes in the programme,” Rogge added, “and we will add one sport to the 2020 Games during the September 2013 session.”

Even if the IOC accepts a joint bid from baseball and softball to re-enter the Olympics as the male and female disciplines of a single sport, the baseball/softball bid will still be in contention with six or seven other sports for the one place available.
