The Great Britain U18 Women capped off the 2025 U18 Women’s European Softball Championship on Friday, 25 July, with a pair of wins over Austria and Germany. GBR defeated Austria in the first game of the twin bill by a 6-1 score, before unleashing an offensive outburst to defeat Germany 11-2. The wins gave Great Britain an undefeated 4-0 record in the Second Round and means that the team will finish 7th in this year’s competition.
In the first game of the day, GBR jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, thanks to Nia Phillips’ two-run single and Sydney Teague’s steal of home. Phillips also got the start in the circle, working a pair of scoreless innings before allowing a leadoff triple in the third. Kailyn Haig (2-1) entered in relief, and while the run would score, she slammed the door for the final five innings of play, while GBR would add a run in the further on Amelia Devonport’s RBI single, and two more in the fifth, when Madi Bell singled home two runs with the bases loaded. Jenna Thompson had three hits from the leadoff spot in the victory.
In the second game of the day, Great Britain faced Germany and broke through for their most dominant offensive performance of the tournament. A nine-run second inning saw 13 GBR batters come to the plate, with Thompson, Amy Hartle, and Bell tallying RBI singles, and Phillips and Abigail Chan adding RBI doubles. The U18s added on two more in the third on Haig’s two run single, before Germany would finally solve starter Elena Clark-Wilson (2-2) and score a run in both the third and fourth to continue the game. Haig came in to close out the game, working a perfect inning to end the contest by run-rule in the fifth.
While Great Britain’s U18 Women’s European Softball Championship has ended, the tournament will conclude tomorrow, with the two medal games to be played at Campus Arrosadia UPNA, Navarra.
The next competition for the Great Britain Women’s Fastpitch programme will be the 2025 Women’s European Softball Championships in Prague, Cezchia, where GBR will look to improve on their back-to-back silver medals. The tournament will take place from 7-13 September.
