The second Golden Oldies World Softball Festival, featuring fastpitch and slowpitch play in age groups from 35 upwards, will be held in Christchurch, New Zealand from 8-15 April 2018.

The various softball competitions will be part of a larger sporting event that will also include tournaments in basketball, cricket, football, golf, hockey, lawn bowls, netball, rugby and squash.

Festival organiser Diane McDermott said, “Golden Oldies Softball Festivals have been designed to give players aged 35 and over the opportunity to play their sport in various softball centres around the world.  The Festival is themed with Fun, Friendship and Fraternity and follows the tenet ‘Let the love of Softball take you places’.  Friends, family and supporters are encouraged to attend the week-long Festival, where the social functions are just as important as the games.”

The Festival will be played at the site that hosted the 2004 Men’s Fastpitch World Championship in New Zealand, and in addition to the two stadium pitches, there will be 14 grass diamonds nearby.

Teams will arrive in Christchurch by Sunday 8 April, when there will be a Parade of Nations and a Welcome Party.  Games will take place on 9-13 April, and 14 April has been set aside for sightseeing and leisure, ending with a Finale Awards Dinner and Dance.
