Great Britain’s U-18’s suffered a pair of losses at the 2025 U-15 European Softball Championship on Tuesday, 22 July, dropping a 3-1 decision to hosts Spain and falling 10-1 in five innings to Czechia.
GBR’s day started at Campo de Béisbol de Irabia, facing Spain, who won twice on Monday to advance to Tuesday’s matchup. The hosts jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first with a leadoff, inside the park home run, and doubled their lead in the fourth with an RBI triple. The GBR offense would spring into action in the bottom of the inning, with Madi Bell’s triple and Abigail Chan’s RBI single cutting the deficit, but Spain added another run in the fifth and held on for the victory. Elena Clark-Wilson (0-2) tossed a complete game, striking out 14 in the defeat.
The action then moved to Campus Arrosadia UPNA for a matchup with the two-time defending champions, Czechia, in GBR’s first game of the tournament as the away team. Great Britain would jump out to a lead in the first behind Amy Hartle’s RBI double, but the Czech side responded by tying the game in the bottom of the first, then scoring nine more unanswered runs for the five-inning victory. Kailyn Haig (0-1) got the start in the loss.
Great Britain travels to Zaragoza tomorrow to face Israel. First pitch from Miralbueno will be at 11:00 CET/10:00 BST. All games at the 2025 U-18 Women’s Softball European Championship can be watched at softballeurope.tv.
