A new women's sport website (www.women2012.co.uk) has adopted GB Women's Team outfielder Laura Thompson as one of its key faces in a drive to encourage more women to take up sport.

Laura has recently been a featured athlete on the website, and is now being used, along with other top British athletes, to promote a national Women's Try Sport Day on June 21.

The aim is to get women to "pledge" to try a new sport before the London Olympics, to raise participation by women across the sporting landscape.  The organisation behind the website, the Women's Sport Network, wants to ensure that women's sport and sportswomen are given a greater profile, not just during the Olympics itself, but afterwards as well.

Hall of Famer

Laura Thompson became the youngest player elected to the British Softball Federation Hall of Fame this past February, even though her playing career is far from over.  Laura was also the youngest player selected to the GB Women's Team when she played in her first European Championship and Olympic Qualifying Tournament in 2003 at the age of 17, and she has been a starting outfielder for the team ever since.

In 2011, Laura led the GB Team in batting and on-base percentage at the World Cup of Softball and in the European Championships, and played some spectacular defense in both tournaments.

This July, Laura will play with the GB Women in the Elite Division at the Canadian Fastpitch Open (formerly the Canada Cup) near Vancouver and then in the 13th ISF Women's World Championships in Whitehorse, Canada.
