Day 1 of the Men's Softball European Championship was a one of mixed emotions and results. In the first game against Netherlands, GB went down 8-1, scoring thanks to a solo home run from Darren Meintjies. The Netherlands had a lot of safe hits which put a number of runners on bases turning into scored runs. Although GB were connecting bat to ball, not enough safe hits to push the base runners around to score. Game 2 saw a change in result with GB beating Sweden 16-1. The bats came alive and a home run from rookie Danny Casey-Wright was the highlight of the game followed by another from Matt Tomlin. Coach Darryl was able to give all his players a run in the latter half of the game, settling the nerves for the days and games ahead.

Coach Darryl comments:  The nerves showed in game 1 and after the 3rd frame the team got it together and played to potential. Game 2 we executed our game plan, the batting came to light and the result showed.
