Coaches from the GB Men’s Fastpitch programme have been in regular contact for some time with the Chi Town Eagles, a team of young softballers based in Chitungwiza, Harare, in Zimbabwe.

Coach Paswa of the Chi Town Eagles has an unrivalled passion for the softball and is dedicated to the development of the game for the local youngsters.

The GB coaches have been helping out with advice and encouragement and have recently taken the opportunity to donate equipment.

The equipment was provided by GB Under-18 Men’s Team Head Coach Ian Tomlin, and was handed over to the Chi Town Eagles by GB Under-18 player Bailey Brown, who has family in Zimbabwe and is currently training there.  Thanks from the players and the coach has been overwhelming.

Potential visit

Work is now underway to arrange for the GB Eagles, made up mainly of GB Under-23 players, to visit Zimbabwe in 2024 to provide coaching and training for the Chi Town youngsters and to establish a twinning relationship between the two Eagles teams.

The visit will also provide another opportunity to take surplus kit and equipment to Zimbabwe, and the GB Men’s Fastpitch programme will be appealing to the wider softball community for donations closer to the time.

A member of the Zimbabwe Softball Association said, “This is sweet news, not only for Chi Town Eagles but for Zimbabwe as a whole.  We thank you for your support and commitment to help softball in Zimbabwe reach higher levels.”
