With a large number of players away at European club competitions or on holiday, Great Britain Fastpitch League (GBFL) teams were reconfigured and played a series of friendly games on Saturday 17 August that will not count in the league standings.
Instead, the standings achieved during GBFL games played in May and June, and shown below, will be used to seed teams for the last date on the league calendar for 2013 -- the GBFL Finals on the weekend of 7-8 September.
Friendly games
On 17 August, the London Meteors and GB Under-19 Men combined to form one team, as did the GB Under-19 Women and Under-16 Girls. London Angels and Oxford Fastpitch were the other two teams taking part, but because many Angels players were already in Europe to take part in the ESF Women's B Pool Cup from August 19-24 in Dupnitsa, Bulgaria, it was far from the usual Angels' team.
The four teams all played each other over the course of the day, with a variety of male and female pitchers being used.
All eight of the normal GBFL teams are expected to compete in the League Finals on the weekend of 7-8 September, but GB Softball Programmes Director Stan Doney is still deciding whether the Finals will be played over one day or two -- and the venue has still to be determined.
