The Fakenham High School girls' fastpitch team has been playing a series of games against American teams at nearby US air bases, and the latest came on Wednesday, May 11, when Fakenham travelled to RAF Alconbury and thrashed their hosts by a score of 15-6.

Fakenham was eventually superior in all areas of the six-inning game as they produced their most dominant performance of the season. But the first inning did not look promising, as Fakenham went down in order and then made a series of fielding errors that let in three unearned runs.

From that point on, however, it was all Fakenham. In the circle, GB pitcher Amie Hutchinson showed good levels of skill and concentration against much older players. Over the six innings, she disn't allow a single hit, with all of the Alconbury runs coming via walks and errors.

Hot bats

On offence, Fakenham wielded their bats with confidence. Florence House, Chantelle Baker, Betty Coe and Shelby Murphy repeatedly smashed the ball into the outfield with impressive power .

They were well supported by the rest of the team who patiently worked themselves on base and showed superior baserunning skills to their opponents.

Next Wednesday, May 18 the Fakenham team will return to RAF Lakenheath.
