The Fakenham Girls' Fastpitch Softball Team recorded another stunning win against the RAF Lakenheath Varsity on Wednesday, 18 April, this time on the Americans' home diamond, by a score of 11-3.

This now means that Fakenham have an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-game series.  These kinds of results would have been unthinkable in the past, and they show how far the Fakenham programme has come.

High standards

As expected, Lakenheath fielded a strong team in an effort to overturn the two defeatsFakenham v Lakenheath action they suffered at Fakenham three weeks ago.  The standard of play was far higher than the previous encounter with few errors, strong pitching and great defence from both teams.

Fakenham were particularly impressive in the field, and supported the strong pitching of GB Under-16 player Amie Hutchison throughout.  Catcher Jenny Codman, shortstop Florence House, first base player Shelby Murphy and centre fielder Chantelle Baker were all outstanding as they closed down the Lakenheath offense.

Decisive home run

The game remained close until the top of the fifth inning, when patient batting from Fakenham put the home pitching under pressure, creating a series of walks and errors.  With two runners on, Amie Hutchison came to the plate and got the pitch she was waiting for all day, crushing the ball into the outfield for a home run took her team to a lead that would prove decisive.

The teams meet again in a couple of weeks, with Fakenham eyes now focused on a clean series sweep.
