Twelve teams from around the country turned up at Archway School in Stroud on Sunday 2 October for the 2016 edition of the annual Autumn Cotswold Tournament, which was played in beautiful weather and was won by the Cheshire Dodgers.

This year, teams came from as far afield as Cardiff, Bristol, Birmingham, Coventry and London.

The 12 teams were divided into three groups of four for round-robin play, and Group B was particularly exciting as the first three places in the group had to be decided by a tiebreak.

Group placings were:

Group A

Cardiff Hammers
Coventry Blitz
Run ‘n Base

Group B
Bristol BS7
Cardiff Hurricanes
London Ninja Floosies
Birmingham Bobcats

Group C
Swarm
Cotswold Chaos
Cardiff Cardinals
All-Stars

Playoffs

For playoff purposes, the teams then divided into four groups of three, with the three first-placed teams playing off for the Championship, the three second-placed teams playing off for the Plate Championship, and the three third-placed teams and three fourth-placed teams playing off for final placings.

In the Championship group, the Cheshire Dodgers took the Cotswold Autumn title with the Swarm finishing second and Bristol BS7 coming third overall.

In the Plate competition, all three teams finished with a 1-1 record, with the tiebreak giving the Cardiff Hurricanes the Plate title, followed by the Cardiff Hammers and Cotswold Chaos.

In the playoff featuring the third-placed teams from the initial round-robin, the London Ninja Floosies came out on top, followed by the Coventry Blitz and Cardiff Cardinals.

And in the playoff featuring the fourth-placed teams, the Birmingham Bobcats defeated Run ‘n’ Base.

Tournament MVPs were Lucy Groves from the London Ninja Floosies and Alex Catmur from the Cardiff Hurricanes.
