The final event of the three-weekend North West Series tournament took place in the Manchester rain on Saturday 22 July, capping off the 2023 outdoor series.

Whilst the WBSC Women's Fastpitch Softball World Cup Pool B took place in Valencia at 34 degrees, brave Northern England teams played a one-day slowpitch softball tournament under unrelenting rain, and decidedly less than summery 15 degree temperatures!

Despite the weather, 27 timed games were played on Saturday, with plenty of quality plays and lots of fun for all. The North West Series featured teams and players from Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds and nearby towns.

The top three spots in each category were claimed by:

COMP

  1. Spittin’ Camels - Manchester
  2. Jammie Dodgers - Manchester
  3. Bobcats - Leeds

REC

  1. Bats - Manchester
  2. Stingers - Manchester
  3. Yorkshire Dales – Yorkshire

Across the three weekends, nearly one hundred softball games were played over the series, featuring 17 teams representing places as far away as Leeds and London.

BaseballSoftballUK Development Manager Luis Arrevillagas commented, "These tournaments provide a great opportunity for both experienced and novice players to compete at a good level but also try newly-learned skills in a friendly environment. The one-day tournaments are particularly popular with those players that have other weekend commitments.  We can’t wait to see these events growing in the years to come."
