The BSF Executive is looking to the softball community for nominations in three key areas of softball activity:

  • Nominations for the Annual Awards to be presented to individuals, clubs, leagues and tournaments at the 2012 AGM for special accomplishments in 2011 or over time.
  • Nominations for new members to be elected to the BSF Hall of Fame -- which now can include people still active in the sport.
  • Nominations for positions on the BSF Executive for 2012-2013.

The BSF is also inviting motions for the 2012 AGM.

The deadline for nominations in all three areas, plus AGM motions, will be December 31, 2011, with all nominations and motions to go to BSF General Officer .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Annual Awards

Nominations for the BSF's Annual Awards can be made in the following categories:

  • The Glover Cup for outstanding and/or long-time service to softball.
  • The League Glover Cup for the league demonstrating the highest development or competition achievements in the past year.
  • The President's Club Award for the softball club or team demonstrating the highest development or competition achievements in the past year.
  • Youth Coach of the Year.
  • Adult Coach of the Year.
  • Tournament Umpire of the Year.
  • Tournament of the Year.

All nominations should include a brief summary of why the individual, league, club or tournament nominated deserves the award.

Hall of Fame

An inaugural group of 12 members was inducted into the British Softball Federation Hall of Fame in 2007 and a further nine members in 2010.

All were nominated and voted on according to regulations that said an individual had to have been "retired" from the activity for which they were being nominated for at least a year before they could be considered.

But the BSF has now changed those regulations as follows:

  • Anyone can be nominated in any Hall of Fame category following retirement as an active participant in that category, without regard to length of service.
  • People still active in the sport can be nominated in any category after 10 years as an active participant in that category, even if they are still active now.

The categories for which people can be nominated are:

  • Player.
  • Umpire.
  • Coach (of adult or youth players).
  • Manager (of a club or national team).
  • Organiser/Administrator (of leagues, the BSF, BASU etc).
  • Development worker.
  • Media worker.

All nominations should include background information on the nominee's career in British softball and a summary of why the individual nominated deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

The BSF's official definition of a Hall of Fame member is: "Those men and women who have played a major role in the growth and development of, or demonstrated outstanding achievement and ability within, British Softball.”

BSF Executive

Members of the BSF Executive currently serve one-year terms and so every position on the Executive is open for nomination each year.

The Executive is looking at its current list of offices to determine whether any positions are redundant or new positions needed. But for now, offices open for nomination are:

  • President
  • Executive Secretary
  • Administrative Officer
  • Treasurer
  • Tournaments Officer
  • Development & Coaching Officer
  • Youth & Schools Officer
  • National Teams Officer
  • Website Officer
  • Marketing Officer
  • General Officer (two can be elected)

Nominations should include information on the candidate's softball background and experience and a brief statement of interest in the office the nomination is for.

Third-party nominations must include an indication that the person nominated is willing to stand.

As the BSF is now incorporated as a company limited by guarantee, all elected officers are directors of the company, but with limited liability.
