BASU umpire Jana McCaskill, officiating at her second WBSC Junior Women’s World Championship final this past week in Irvine, California, was given the honour of being the plate umpire at Saturday’s Grand Final between the USA and Japan.

It turned out be an epic encounter, won 4-3 by the United States in extra innings after Japan had led 3-0 late in the game.

Jana’s appointment was the first time that a BASU umpire has been given the plate at a fastpitch World Championship final, and the honour reflects Jana’s growth and development as an umpire at the highest level of the sport.

In the UK, Jana has been heavily involved for the past six years as a key umpire in the Great Britain Fastpitch League and a fastpitch umpire trainer, as well as providing rules clinics for GB coaches and player and serving for two years as the BSF’s National Teams Officer and the Chair of the GB Management Committee.
