GB Women lose tough 3-1 battle to the Dutch

Great Britain and the Netherlands staged a tough, high-class game of softball at the start of the second round in the 2011 European Women's Fastpitch Championships on Wednesday evening, August 3, before a packed crowd in the main stadium at Ronchi dei Legionari in North East Italy. But the Dutch had more hits and also had the better of both the luck and the umpiring, and won the game 3-1.

Sweden came advertised as a team that couldn't be taken lightly, and the GB Women's Fastpitch Team paid due care and attention, sending Stacie Townsend out to pitch and coming back with a 3-0 victory on the evening of August 2.

GB Women swamp Hungary

The GB Women's Fastpitch Team had a first inning scare when Hungary loaded the bases wiuth no outs and took a 2-0 lead. But then pitcher Carling Hare took control, GB pounded out 18 hits and ran out 16-2 winners in four innings.

One piece of defensive hesitation let Italy score the only run of a brilliant pitcher's duel between GB's Stacie Townsend and Italy's Stella Turazzi in the opening game for both teams on July 31 at the 2011 European Women's Fastpitch Championships in North East Italy.

GB Women overwhelm France in final warm-up game

Thunderstorms stayed away for long enough on July 30 to let the GB Women's Fastpitch Team get in a warm-up match against France before the European Championships get underway on July 31 in Italy. The score was 18-0 in favour of Britain in the fifth inning when the French coach called a halt.

Rain wipes out first GB Women scrimmage game in Italy

The GB Women's Fastpitch Team was ready to take on Austria in their first warm-up game in Italy on the evening of July 29, before the European Championships get underway on July 31. But first there was lightning and thunder, and then a torrential downpour, and the team will try again tomorrow.

GB Women claim fifth place at the Softball World Cup

The GB Women's Fastpitch Team played out a comfortable 6-1 win over the Czech Republic on July 25 to take the fifth place trophy at the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City. Now the team heads for the European Championships and World Championship Qualifier in Italy.

The GB Women's Fastpitch Team did Great Britain proud on July 24 at the 6th World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City with great efforts against the two best teams in the world, Japan and the USA.
