Wed 15 Jul 2015

Women’s teams from Manchester won three of the four competitions at the BSF Single-Sex Slowpitch National Championships played at Moor Lane Sports Ground in Birmingham on the weekend of 11-12 July, while the Puppies from London went undefeated to win the Men’s Platinum event.

Thirteen women’s teams and 15 men’s teams took part, a healthy total but down from last year’s record 32-team entry.

Women’s Nationals

The Manchester Minx won the Women’s Platinum title, Pitchslap from Manchester won the Silver competition and the Manchester Mega Minx won the Bronze.  Only the Bluebirds from Bristol were able to put a wedge in Manchester’s dominance by winning the Women’s Gold title.

The Minx, who went 6-2 on the weekend, edged out the defending champion Cupcakes from London 9-8 in the Women’s Platinum final, with Areej Elmaazi as the final MVP.

The Bristol Bluebirds defeated the Leeds Hooters 13-1 in the Gold final, with Yuki Ono of the Bluebirds winning the MVP award.

Pitchslap squeaked past the East Midlands Sheriffs 5-4 in the Silver final, with Tasha Miotk of Pitchslap awarded the MVP trophy.

And the Manchester Mega Minx won the Bronze title with a 17-6 win over the Pink Panthers from the East Midlands, with Claire Wakefield of the Mega Minx being judged the MVP.

Men’s Nationals

In men’s competition, the Puppies defeated last year’s champions, the Manchester Hoggs, 9-2 in the Platinum final to remain undefeated on the weekend, but Adam Roberts of the Hoggs took the final MVP award.

The Mildenhall Bombers won the Gold tournament, defeating Bristol by 22-11 in the final, but Mike McDowell from Bristol was judged to be the MVP.

And the Glasgow Kiss from Scotland won the Silver title thanks to a 17-16 win over the Birmingham Bobcats, with Chris Curley from Glasgow earning the MVP award.
