Great Britain Women’s Fastpitch Team seeks hitting coach

Great Britain Softball is currently seeking a Hitting Coach for the GB Women’s National Fastpitch Team. 

The Hitting Coach will work with the team’s other coaches to create and execute a hitting development programme, mostly delivered at distance, for national team players, and the Hitting Coach will also be part of the staff that travels with the team to international competitions. 

In 2019, this will include the European Championship in the Czech Republic (30 June-6 July) and the Europe-Africa Olympic Qualifying Tournament in the Netherlands (23-28 July) as well as training camps before both tournaments (dates to be decided).

This is a volunteer role, though expenses, including all travel with the team, are covered.

Duties / Responsibilities:

Leading up to tours, the Hitting Coach will be expected to:

  • Implement an organisational hitting development programme.
  • Analyse hitter strengths and deficiencies using tools, reports and technology and communicate with players on a regular basis.
  • Prescribe and monitor a development plan for each hitter.
  • Collaborate with Strength & Conditioning / Exercise staff to identify and act on solutions related to physical limitations / opportunities.
  • Communicate plans, goals and progress with players and relevant staff members through a series of checkpoints.
  • Use technology to scout opposition players.
  • Develop a strong mental approach to offense among the players.

While on tour, the Hitting Coach will be expected to:

  • Work with other coaches to plan hitting practice while coordinating with other members of staff.
  • Assist other staff when able and necessary with normal day-to-day operations (throwing BP, hitting fungoes etc).
  • Work a flexible schedule, including extended hours and evenings.
  • Suggest in-game adjustments for players (physical and mental).
  • Scout opposition and plan with other staff to maximise opportunities for success.

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • Interest in player development, strength & conditioning and analytics.
  • Ability to understand and advocate for changes due to new information and / or tools in softball.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Hard-working and driven to succeed.
  • Professional or collegiate playing experience is a plus.
  • Coaching experience is a necessity.

Work Environment

This job mainly operates remotely, but will involve being immersed 24/7 with the team while on tours for periods of time ranging from two to five  weeks.


Travel will be expected in this role, primarily around tour dates.  All travel costs and associated expenses will be covered.
