    GB Cadettes split a doubleheader in Belgium

    The GB Cadette (Under-16) Girls’ Fastpitch Team notched their first win on August 10 at the European Cadette Championships in Antwerp, crushing France by a score of 15-3. But GB had to take the field again almost immediately against Russia and suffered a 17-0 three-inning defeat.

    Following the final tabulation of results and points from the National Softball League competition at Diamond 3 and throughout the season, the BSF has announced the top eight teams from the NSL that have qualified for the 2011 Premier Nationals.

    Six teams slug it out at BASIC 2011 in Belfast

    The Belfast Aviators Softball Club staged the second annual BASIC Tournament on Saturday, August 6 at Shorts Recreation Club in Belfast. Despite some initiall interest, no teams attended from England or Scotland, but three teams from Northern Ireland and three from the Republic had a great day, with a Belfast v Dublin final.

    Italy proves too strong for the GB Cadettes

    Yesterday, August 8, the GB Cadette (Under-16) Girls’ Fastpitch Team had to take on the Czech Repubic in their first game at the 2011European Cadette Championships on the outskirts of Antwerp in Belgium. Today, it was Italy, and the result was the same: a 9-0 defeat.

    Rocky start for the GB Cadettes in Belgium

    First games in European Championships are rarely a good thing for GB youth fastpitch teams, and they’re even tougher when the first opponent is the Czech Republic. So it was no surprise when the GB Cadette (Under-16) Girls’ Fastpitch Team gave up seven runs to the Czechs in the first inning on August 8 in the opening game of the European Cadette Championships in rainy Belgium. GB settled down after that, but still lost by 9-0.

    Chromies come back to lift the European Slowpitch Cup

    The defending European Slowpitch Cup champion Chromies managed only a 6-6 record and third place in the round-robin phase of the 2011 competition, played in Mlade Buky in the Czech Republic. But then Chromies swept through the Page Playoffs and defeated Limerick from Ireland in the final to lift the trophy again.

    GB Women settle for third place at the European Championships

    Another 1-0 defeat to Italy put the GB Women’s Fastpitch Team out of the 2011 European Women’s Championships on the afternoon of August 6, and the final will be between Italy and the Netherlands. But the GB Team achieved their main goal: qualification for next year’s World Championships in Canada.

    Pioneers are favourites as the European Slowpitch Cup heads for Page Playoffs

    The BSF 2010 Premier Nationals Champions Pioneers finished well ahead of the field by the time the round-robin phase of the 2011 European Slowpitch Cup came to an end on Friday evening, August 5 at Mlade Buky in the Czech Republic. Pioneers will be joined by Limerick, Chromies and Sparks Mlade Buky in Saturday’s Page Playoffs.

    GB Women qualify for the World Championships

    The GB Women’s Fastpitch Team have done it again—qualifying for the World Championships for the second straight time by overcoming the Czech Republic 2-0 on August 5 at the European Women’s Championships in Italy. GB can finish no lower than third, but will play tomorrow to see if they can finish even higher.

    GB Women are one game away from World Championship qualification

    The task of qualifying for the 2012 World Championships is down to just one game for the GB Women’s Fastpitch Team—the 6.30 encounter on August 5 with the Czech Republic. A win will also keep GB in the hunt for the European Championship title.
