The reign of the British and Irish at the top of European slowpitch is over. The Slovenian team Lisicke won the European Slowpitch Cup on Saturday in the Czech town of Pardubice with a tense, tight but well deserved 6-4 win over Chromies.

Chromies drop dramatic playoff game

The Chromies will have to fight their way back to the final of the 2012 European Slowpitch Cup on Saturday in the Czech town of Pardubice after Lisicke from Slovenia broke a 9-9 tie with seven unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning to send Chromies crashing to a 16-9 defeat in the 1 v 2 Page Playoff game on Friday afternoon.

Forty-six teams enjoyed a fair amount of sunshine (plus a freak electrical storm and heavy showers) at Farnham Park over the weekend of July 28-29 as the Diamond Softball Series wound up its 2012 season and series winners were announced.

Clapham Thunder and Manchester Fish take titles at Windsor

The 2012 Windsor Tournament, played on the weekend of July 14-15 at the Berkshire County Cricket Club in Sonning, attracted 32 teams, who braved rainy conditions on Saturday, and were rewarded with sunshine on the Sunday. Clapham Thunder won the B-grade title and Manchester Fish were champions at C-grade.

Softball has come to Hertfordshire! Beginner slowpitch sessions are now running every Wednesday evening in St Albans as part of BaseballSoftballUK's development work. BSUK's South East regional team is partnering with Active St Albans to secure funding as part of the Get Into Sport initiative, and the result is new teams of adult and youth co-ed softball players enjoying a fun yet competitive series of training and gameplay.
