Stan DoneyOver the past year, by special arrangement between the BSF and BSUK, Stan Doney has been working for both organisations.

For BSUK, Stan's role has consisted largely of day-to-day management of the new facilities at Farnham Park along with some development responsibilities; for the BSF, his role was to support GB Softball programmes and fastpitch softball in general.

From 1 December 2013, Stan is no longer continuing with his BSUK responsibilities, but he has been reappointed to a part-time consultancy role with the BSF, with the title of GB Programmes Manager.

In this role, Stan will have two major areas of work: to support and develop GB National Team programmes, and to support the growth and development of domestic fastpitch softball.

Priorities

Stan's main priorities in his BSF role will be:

  • Mentoring GB-based national team coaches (especially youth team coaches) and helping to improve their coaching, session organisation and game management skills.

  • Providing particular support to the GB Under-13 programme.

  • Organising and/or delivering fastpitch coach education for existing and potential fastpitch coaches in the UK.

  • Advising the GB Management Committee on GB Team staff appointments.

  • Working to continue the fastpitch pitcher development programme that began in the UK this past summer.

  • Working with GB Team coaches and managers to set up competition trips to the Continent for GB Teams and to host European teams in the UK.

  • Developing and supporting additional fastpitch competition structures in the UK beyond the GBFL.

  • Helping young GB-based players find opportunities to play college softball in the United States.

Support

Stan will also provide volunteer support as required for Academy Softball, the new BSUK Talent programme, the Great Britain Fastpitch League and a schools development programme.

On behalf of the BSF, the GB Management Committee will support Stan in his role, and will agree action plans and targets with him.
