Slowpitch softball will be one of the sports to be showcased at the Brentwood Games on Sunday 14 April, an annual event where Brentwood area residents get the chance to sample different games and are hopefully inspired to start playing.

The Games will be staged from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm on the day at Brentwood Leisure Centre, Doddinghurst Road, Brentwood, Essex CM15 9NN.  Tthe sports on show, in addition to softball, will include karate, taekonwdo, handball, badminton, gymnastics, streetball/basketball, trampolining, boccia, scuba diving and MMA.  The event will also feature live music.

Softball representatives

The softball contingent at the Games will be led by Phil Candice, who organises development sessions for the Greater London Softball Mixed League, with support from Essex Redbacks Baseball and Softball Club.

Others who have volunteered to help out include Jacquelyn Strey, Adrienne Elly and Tom Woodward.

Softball's time slot during the Games will be noon to 3.00 pm.

Showcasing the sport

Phil Candice said: “Our intention is to showcase softball with drills and training equipment such as batting nets to people who are new to the sport who attend the Brentwood Games day.  I imagine it will be coaching and chatting to total beginners for as long as we can hold their attention, and we might be able to organise a full game.”
