The Great Britain Fastpitch League (GBFL), which will play mini-tournaments on six Saturdays in 2013 on weekends when no major slowpitch tournaments are taking place, is looking for scorers for the coming season.

All GBFL competition days will be played in the South East, at Richings Park in Iver, Bucks during the early part of the season, and later in the summer on the new purpose-built pitches at Farnham Park.

GBFL play will take place on May 5, 18 and 25, June 1 and August 17, with a finals weekend (Saturday and Sunday) scheduled for September 7-8.

During each GBFL date, there will be play in two adult divisions (but with many youth players from GB teams taking part) and in an Under-14 youth division.

Scoring need

The need for GBFL games to be scored on a consistent basis is so that accurate statistics can be produced to track performance, especially for GB youth team players.

These statistics are not only useful for GB coaches, but are also a necessity for the increasing number of young GB players who are applying to play college softball in the United States.

Scoring for fastpitch softball is very similar to slowpitch scoring, except for the elements of bunting and base-stealing that do not occur in slowpitch, and for the need to keep track of balls and strikes.  Training in these elements can be quickly provided for anyone whose scoring experiences have been in slowpitch only.

Contact details

Anyone interested in scoring games on some or all of the GBFL dates this season, or who want to find out more about the opportunity, should contact Softball Programmes Manager Stan Doney on: stanley.doney@bsuk.com.

While the GBFL is unable to pay for scorers, it will be more than happy to buy scorers a free lunch on the day!
