The Bristol Main Tournament, hosted by the Bristol Softball Association, was played over the weekend of July 7-8 and managed  triumph over the heavy rain that saturated much of the country that week.

Teams came from all over the country to take part.

Playing surface

The tournament was unique in that it was probably one of the first major UK softball tournaments to be played entirely on all-weather pitches.  The BSA and Clifton College ran the event on cutting edge astrourf hockey and “3g” football pitches.

Despite the change of playing surface, the majority of players that competed hailed the tournament as a big success and enjoyed the consistent bounces!  The Manchester Greensox were quoted as saying that they would love to roll up the playing surfaces and take them back to Manchester.

Winners

The Greensox won the the B-grade competition and the Birmingham Bobcats triumphed at C-grade.

Two teams from Bristol, The Jets (B-grade) and Lucky Strikes (C-grade), won the Plate finals.
