The Greater London Softball Mixed League has run Monday night development sessions in Regents Park for a number of years, and the 2012 Development Nights will begin on June 11 and run for 11 weeks, through August 20.

The sessions are aimed at slowpitch softball beginners and people who have had limited experience with the sport and any players who want to improve their skills.

All equipment will be provided and the sessions will be run with an emphasis on enjoying the game and having fun.

Building confidence

GLSML Development Nights organiser Phil Candice says: “It’s not like the X Factor -- you won’t be voted off after a few weeks!  Instead, we will slowly build your confidence and skills so that you can enjoy being part of a growing sport.

“The goal behind the sessions is to bring everyone interested in playing and teach them over the summer on how to play the game, but more importantly how to become a team!

“This might require some time in the pub,” Phil added, “just to talk about the finer points of the game and get to know each other!”

Cost and dates

The cost will be £3 per person per session, but the bulk of the money will be given back to the group as a first year’s registration into the Greater London Softball Mixed League if the players form into a team and enter the GLSML the following year.

The league has been running these sessions for around 10 years and a number of current league teams have come together through the Development Nights programme.

Development Night sessions will begin at 6.30 pm and will be held on the following dates in Regents Park:

11 June (Pitch 7)
