The GB Under-16 Girls’ Fastpitch Team, one of GB Softball’s most important programmes, is looking for a new Head Coach and Team Manager to take the team forward.

The GB Under-16 Girls have no official European competition in 2016, but are already building towards European Championships in 2017 through participation in various competitions and clinics at home and abroad.

At the European Under-16 Championships in 2015 in Sardinia, the GB Team achieved its highest-ever placing, finishing fourth and just missing out on a bronze medal.

Head Coach

Candidates for the position of Head Coach with a GB Team must have at least a Level 2 coaching qualification and a willingness to attain Level 3 certification.

Previous playing experience at international level is desirable as well as previous fastpitch coaching experience.

A DBS check will be needed if not already held and attendance at a safeguarding course will be required.

The new Head Coach should be able to coach the team later this year at autumn clinic and competition days at Farnham Park and during a mixed fastpitch tournament in Paris in October where many GB Under-16 players will be taking part.

GB Team Head Coaches are also expected, where possible, to coach at Academy and High Performance Academy sessions over the winter and in the Great Britain Fastpitch League during the spring.

The 2017 European Championships for Cadette (Under-16) Girls will be held in Ostrava in the Czech Republic from 10-15 July.

Head Coach positions with GB Teams voluntary, but some travel expenses incurred in this country in connection with GB Under-16 training or competition, as well as all costs incurred during trips overseas, will be covered.

As the Head Coach, you will be able to appoint Assistant Coaches, a physiotherapist etc subject to approval by the GB Management Committee.

Anyone interested in the position of Head Coach for the GB Under-16 Girls’ Team, normally a two-year appointment, should compete an application form.  The deadline for applications is 20 July 2016.

Team Manager

GB National Team Managers have a wide range of duties during trials, training and competition, working closely with the Head Coach, Assistant Coaches and other staff such as physiotherapists or trainers, as well as with players and parents.

A general list of the tasks undertaken by National Team Managers can be downloaded here.

Team Manager positions are voluntary, but all costs of attending official tournaments overseas are covered, and costs to attend training and trials in the UK can sometimes be met through team funds or by the GB Management Committee.

Above all, the job requires good organisational and communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to manage a budget and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
