In order to avoid clashes with major slowpitch tournaments, the Great Britain Fastpitch League (GBFL) has this year packed all its playing dates into a six-week period between 26 April and 31 May, playing on every Saturday over that timespan except 10 May, which was the weekend of Diamond Series 1.

Because because rain wiped out Fastpitch League play on 24 May, an extra date has been added to the GBFL schedule.  The league will stage its final day of play on Saturday 28 June at Farnham Park.

Successful year

This has been a successful year for the GBFL, which is probably the most inclusive league in Britain, with men's, women's and mixed teams and with adult and youth players making up teams that play in two divisions based on ability, age and experience.  That mix has produced a great atmosphere this year, a lot of competitive games and a lot of learning experiences for the younger players.

So instead of losing one of only five playing dates, it was decided to add the extra day.

For more information about the schedule for 28 June, GBFL teams and players should contact the league organiser, Stan Doney, on: stanley.doney@britishsoftball.org.  Stan expects most of the games that day to take place in Division 1, and players from the GB Under-13 that has just been selected to compete in Europe this summer will be on hand to watch and learn.
