The British Softball Federation and the GB Management Committee is seeking applications for the position of Head Coach for:

  • The GB Senior Women’s Fastpitch Team.
  • The GB Junior (Under-19) Women’s Fastpitch Team.

As with all GB Softball national teams, these are voluntary positions, but expenses in the UK and the costs involved in taking teams to ESF or ISF competitions overseas are covered.

At the present time, both the GB Women Team (currently ranked fifth in Europe) and the GB Under-19 Women’s Team (currently ranked fourth in Europe) compete in one ESF or ISF tournament each year, alternating between European and World Championships.  Both teams may also occasionally travel outside the UK for additional training and competition experience.  Both teams are generally selected from a mixture of players based in the UK and passport-holding or passport-eligible players based overseas.  UK-based GB Under-19 and GB Women’s Team players usually compete as a team in the Great Britain Fastpitch League.

Criteria

The Head Coaches appointed to each team will need to be:

  • Currently resident in the UK.

  • Willing to make at least a two-year commitment to their team’s programme.

  • Willing to be involved, as time permits, as a coach at the Softball Academy and/or High Performance Academy.

  • Willing to be involved – perhaps by working together – in training UK-based GB Women and Under-19 Women players in the run-up to international tournaments.

With the possibility of softball being restored to the Olympics for 2020, and a European Qualifier for the Olympics being held in 2019, we are expecting more integration between the GB Under-19 and GB Senior Women’s Team programmes in future.

It is highly desirable that the people appointed will hold at least a BSUK Level 2 coaching qualification or an equivalent qualification from another country, though exceptions can be made based on experience.  Both Head Coaches will also need good communications skills to keep in touch with players who are based in countries around the world as well as in the UK.

Application Form

To receive an Application Form for the position of GB Senior Women’s Team Head Coach or GB Under-19 Women’s Team Head Coach, please email Bob Fromer (bob.fromer@bsuk.com), specifying which team you are interested in coaching.

The deadline for completed Application Forms to be received will be Monday 28 September 2015.

Interest in Assistant Coach positions for the GB Women and GB Under-19 Women’s Teams are also welcomed (please notify Bob Fromer of any such interest) but the new Head Coaches will reserve the right to make other staff appointments in each case subject to review by the GB Management Committee.
