Following the success of the National Softball League (NSL) over the years since it began in 2009, the BSF is now pleased to announce an extension of the concept, with an NSL 2 competition being added for the 2016 season.

In its inaugural season, NSL 2 will be a league competition open to any team playing in specified B-grade tournaments (see list below) during the upcoming season. NSL 2 is designed to provide a potential route to the Co-ed National Championships as well as a means by which teams can be promoted to NSL 1 in the succeeding year.

After the last qualifying tournament, the top four teams in the NSL 2 standings will get an automatic place in the B-grade National Championships to be held at Farnham Park on 13-14 August.  In addition, the top team in the NSL 2 standings will automatically move up to NSL 1 for the 2017 season, while the team that finishes in last place in NSL 1 in 2016 will be relegated to NSL 2 for the following season.

The standings for NSL 2 will be determined by cumulative won-loss percentage in games played at qualifying tournaments.

How to enter

It’s really easy to enter NSL 2 in its inaugural season.  All a team has to do is indicate to the BSF that they want to participate in the league and then enter (at B-grade level) at least three of the tournaments listed below, playing a total of at least 20 games in those listed tournaments.

Tournaments that can used for NSL 2 play are:

  • Diamond 1 (14-15 May)
  • Diamond 2 (11-12 June)
  • British Airways (18-19 June)
  • Bristol Main (2-3 July)
  • Windsor (16-17 July)
  • East Midlands Labor Day Tournament (23-24 July)
  • Diamond 3 (6-7 August)

NSL 2 opens up a brand new level of competition and should be an exciting additional opportunity for B-grade teams.
