Birmingham Bobcats

Ever fancied playing a new sport with friends or family?  A six-week programme of Women's Softball 4 Beginners sessions catering for female participants will be run by the Birmingham Bobcats from Thursday 17 May.  Any interested women aged 14 and older can join in the fun as a great way to try out a new sport and meet new people.

The sessions are funded by Sportivate and are being run in partnership with BaseballSoftballUK.

The first session will be held on Thursday 17 May in Edgbaston, after which Women's Softball 4 Beginners will continue for another five weeks every Thursday evening.  All sessions will be run at Hallfield School playing fields (view map) starting at 6:30pm.  The sessions will be conducted by qualified coaches, lead by Meg Gallahan of the Birmingham Bobcats with support from other Bobcats and BSUK's Regional Development Manager Will Lintern.  Each session will cost £2 or participants can pay in advance for all six sessions and save 20% at a flat rate of £10.

Softball is fun social sport that anyone can pick up and play regardless of their of previous experience.  The slowpitch format of the game is typically played by co-ed teams, meaning that a squad comprises both men and women.  To encourage female participation in Birmingham the Bobcat's are running their first ever Women's Softball 4 Beginner course.

Women's Softball 4 Beginners

Programme

The six week programme will introduce beginners to the game of softball, starting with the basics of putting on a glove and how to throw before progressing to actual live play.  Each week will focus on a different skill including pitching, hitting and fielding before culminating in a game.

The final session will see the 'Softball for Beginners' cohort mix in with the rest of the Birmingham Bobcats and form several mini-teams to play a friendly intra-club competition, the first of its kind for the Bobcats.

All equipment will be provided so players only need to bring suitable athletic attire, either trainers or football boots, a fun attitude and a keenness to learn and make friends!
