BSF calls for motions, awards and nominations

Fri 14 Dec 2018

The BSF Executive is issuing its annual call for:

  • Nominations for annual awards.
  • Nominations for positions on the Executive.
  • Motions to the BSF AGM.

The 2019 BSF AGM will be held on Saturday 23 February at at the Metropolitan Police Bushey Sports Club, Aldenham Road, Bushey, Herts WD23 2TR.

Nominations for awards

The BSF is asking the softball community for nominations for its annual awards that will be presented at the 2019 AGM, and for a series of coaching awards that will be presented at BSUK’s 2019 Coach Summit on Saturday 26 January in Milton Keynes.

The softball-specific coaching awards made at the Coach Summit will be referenced at the BSF AGM, and the BSF will reward the winners by buying their tickets to the next BSUK Coach Summit in 2020.

Coaching awards

Nominations can be made for any of the following awards, which will be presented at the Coach Summit in January (only the first two awards listed are softball-specific; with the other awards, there could be either a baseball or softball winner):

  • Youth Softball Coach of the Year.  This award is for outstanding contribution to coaching young people in softball in Britain.
  • Adult Softball Coach of the Year.  This award is for outstanding contribution to adult softball coaching in Britain.
  • Young Coach of the Year.  This award is for the coach aged 22 or younger deemed to have made the biggest contribution to coaching, managing and supporting baseball and/or softball in England in 2018.
  • Participation Coach of the Year.  This award is for a coach who has engaged new participants, not in a traditional club setting but within BSUK national programmes and/or participation projects.
  • Services to Coaching Award.  This award is made to the individual who best personifies what it means to be a baseball or softball coach: someone who understands their sport and can use the lessons learned on the pitch to motivate and engage others.  They have probably played a great number of roles and without them coaching in your club, your league, your county or perhaps even your country wouldn’t be the same.
  • Volunteer of the Year in softball or baseball.  This award is for a volunteer in a non-coaching role who has given up a substantial amount of time to support their local club, team or league and who has made a significant impact on the development of our sports.

Nominations for these awards should be made on this form no later than Thursday 30 November.

BSF annual awards

The BSF’s annual awards are given in the following categories for which nominations are received:

  • The Glover Cup for outstanding long-term services to softball by an administrator or organiser.
  • The President’s Club Award for outstanding performance or development by an affiliated club or team.
  • The League Glover Cup for outstanding development achievement by an affiliated league.
  • The Tournament Umpire of the Year Award.
  • The Tournament of the Year Award.
  • The Youth Team of the Year Award for outstanding performance or development achievement.
  • The Betsy Holden Award for outstanding achievement by a young person in developing or promoting the sport.

All nominations for the BSF’s annual awards should be sent to BSF Administrator Stella Ackrell and should be accompanied by information supporting the nomination.  The deadline for nominations is 5.00 pm on Friday 21 December.

Nominations for the BSF Executive

All of the current members of the Executive are re-standing (see list below), but because they have all completed a two-year term, the positions are open and other candidates can stand for them.  Officers re-standing are:

President:  Jenny Fromer
Administrator:  Stella Ackrell
Treasurer:  Laura Burkhardt
Competitions Director:  Liz Graham
General Officer:  Mike Jennings
General Officer:  Steve Getraer

The position of National Teams Officer is currently vacant.  The holder of this position becomes the Chair for the GB Management Committee (GBMC), which oversees and supports softball national teams, and is the liaison between the GBMC and the BSF Executive.  The BSF is very keen for this post to be filled.

The BASU Representative on the Executive for 2019 will be appointed by BASU at its AGM on 9 February 2019.

Motions to the AGM

Leagues, teams or individuals can submit motions to the BSF AGM.

These must be submitted in writing, with a rationale for the motion, by 5.00 pm on Friday 21 December, and should be sent to BSF Administrator Stella Ackrell

If you wish to discuss your motion with the BSF before submitting it, please contact BSF President Jenny Fromer

AGM attendance requirements

Attendance at the BSF AGM is linked to eligibility to participate in National Championships.  Attendance is required by:

  • All NSL 1 and NSL 2 teams.
  • All slowpitch softball leagues that wish to send teams to Nationals at any level.
  • All 2018 league divisional winners that wish to take up the place they have earned in the Co-ed Slowpitch Nationals in 2019 at the appropriate grade.
  • All teams that won their grade (Gold, Silver, Bronze) at the 2018 Co-ed Slowpitch Nationals if they wish to be guaranteed a place in the 2019 Nationals as defending champions.

Please note that, in general, a league representative cannot also represent a team at the AGM.  However, a League Head who is a genuine registered playing member of a team from that league that has won a place in the 2019 BSF Co-ed Slowpitch League Nationals can represent both the league and that team.  But such a person will only have one vote, not two.

If you are invoking this clause by representing your league and team at the AGM, please let BSF Competitions Director Liz Graham know beforehand.
