The World Baseball Softball Confederation has announced the appointment of 30 umpires from 23 countries to officiate at the 2017 WBSC Junior Women’s Softball World Championship, and two BASU umpires are among them.

BASU Fastpitch Officer Bridget Cameron and BSF National Teams Officer Jana McCaskill, both of whom are ISF-qualified umpires, have been chosen to join the crew for the 12th Junior Women’s World Championship, to be played in Clearwater, Florida from 24-30 July.

The GB Junior Women’s Fastpitch Team will be among the countries competing, and after winning last year’s European Junior Championship, will be looking to improve on a 13th-place finish at the last Junior Worlds in Oklahoma City in 2015, which was won by the United States.

WBSC Softball Division President Dale McMann said: "This global selection of umpires highlights the growing base of knowledgeable softball officials and leaders around the world.  These important officials ensure the integrity of our Softball World Championships and also help ensure our sport is officiated uniformly in their home countries, which is a key factor in our development aims to grow the sport."

Since arriving in Britain several years ago from Australia, both Bridget and Jana have been at the forefront of the development of fastpitch softball and fastpitch umpiring in the UK.

Their selection to officiate at the 2017 Junior Women’s World Championship makes Great Britain one of just five countries to have more than one umpire at the tournament.
