There are currently a number of vacancies in the GB Softball National Teams programme for Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Team Managers, and the GB Management Committee is looking for volunteers to join its working subcommittees.

National Team staff vacancies

Current vacancies for national team staff members are:

  • GB Senior Men’s Fastpitch Team – Team Manager.  Current GB Men’s Team Manager Lee Grafton is leaving the UK early in 2018 for work reasons, and a new Manager is required to help with trials and training sessions for players based in the UK and to travel with the team to Havlickuv Brod in the Czech Republic for the European Men’s Fastpitch Championship at the end of June 2018.  In carrying out these functions, the new Team Manager will work closely with Lee Grafton to ensure a smooth transition as well as with GB Senior Men’s Team Head Coach Kevin Stockford, who is based in Denmark, and with a UK-based Assistant Coach, to be appointed.

  • GB Senior Men’s Fastpitch Team -- UK-based Assistant Coach.  Because GB Senior Men’s Team Head Coach Kevin Stockford is based in Denmark, the team wishes to appoint a GB-based Assistant Coach to scout for potential new players, liaise on a regular basis with the GB Under-19 Men’s Team staff and work with the Senior Men’s Team Manager to organise and deliver training sessions for GB Men’s Team players in the UK.

  • Proposed GB Under-16 Boys Fastpitch Team – Head Coach.  With a GB Under-16 Boys Championship now established on the European Softball Federation calendar, there is interest in creating a GB Under-16 Boys Fastpitch Team.  A Head Coach and Team Manager (see below) will be needed to get this programme off the ground.  The role of the Head Coach will be to find and assemble players for this team, schedule and deliver training sessions, organise competition opportunities and prepare a team to enter the next European Under-16 Boys’ Championship in 2019.

  • Proposed GB Under-16 Boys Fastpitch Team – Team Manager.  The role of the Team Manager will be to help organise the new programme, support the Head Coach in finding and training players for the team and organise the trip to the European Championship in 2019.

Conditions

Here are some conditions and regulations regarding GB National Team staff:

  • Head Coaches and Team Managers are appointed by the GB Management Committee (GBMC) on behalf of the British Softball Federation, and are generally required to be UK-based.

  • All Head Coaches for GB National Teams must have at least a BSUK Level 2 coaching qualification or its equivalent, or have plans to acquire this qualification in the year of appointment.

  • Assistant Coaches and medical/sports science staff are generally appointed by the Head Coach of each team with the approval of the GBMC, but must submit an application to the GBMC before their appointment.

  • No GB National Team staff members are paid; all positions are voluntary.  However, costs for staff members are covered when a national team goes abroad for competition, and some expenses connected with training and competition in the UK can be claimed if necessary.

Anyone applying for any of the vacant positions listed above, or for any other National Team staff position, should fill out a GB Staff Application Form on this link:  https://goo.gl/forms/S1SW0tzac11DPNew1.

GBMC Subcommittees

The GB Management Committee (GBMC) is an arm of the British Softball Federation whose job is to support and oversee GB Softball National Team programmes.

In order to increase its scope and efficiency, the GBMC is creating four Working Subcommittees to carry out different aspects of its work.  Each subcommittee will be directed by a member of the GBMC or the BSF Executive, and the GBMC is looking for up to three volunteer members from the softball community with the necessary time and skills to join each committee.

The subcommittees are:

  • Uniforms, Equipment and Branding Subcommittee.  Under the direction of GBMC Treasurer Simon Mortimer, this subcommittee will organise the provision of uniforms, team clothing and equipment for GB Softball National Teams, while maintaining and building the GB Softball brand.

  • Merchandising and Fundraising Subcommittee.  This subcommittee will set up an operation to sell GB-branded merchandise in the UK and at tournaments abroad, and will explore other fundraising avenues, including sponsorship and crowdfunding.  A leader for this subcommittee has yet to be appointed.

  • Events, Competitions and GBFL Subcommittee.  Under the direction of BaseballSoftballUK Fastpitch Development Manager Johanna Malisani, this subcommittee, with the help of other volunteers as needed, will organise international tournaments hosted in the UK and GB development team trips to invitational tournaments in Europe, and will help to support the administration of the Great Britain Fastpitch League.

  • Staff Development and Training Subcommittee.  Under the direction of GBMC Safeguarding Officer and BSF President Jenny Fromer, this subcommittee will organise safeguarding training as required for national team staff members as well as organising or providing information on clinics and other CPD opportunities for national team staff.

Anyone who would like to offer to serve on any of these subcommittees should email gbmc@britishsoftball.org, specifying the subcommittee you would like to join and providing relevant background information.
