Sixteen teams from Manchester, Yorkshire and Scotland met at Powerleague Trafford in Manchester on Saturday 2 March to compete for honours in the fifth Manchester Indoor Softball Tournament.

When the tournament began at 1.00 pm, a round-robin was played with two pools of eight teams.  After a break for the athletes to recover and rejuvenate (with the help of complimentary chips) teams were split into Gold, Silver, Bronze and Spoon categories for the playoffs.

The atmosphere over the course of the afternoon was fantastic, with more than 150 softballers spread over seven indoor pitches while music blasted from a huge speaker.  Baseball Outlet had a stall selling softball gear to players ahead of the upcoming outdoor season, and everyone there was just happy to be playing their favourite sport.

Comments

BaseballSoftballUK Regional Development Manager Luis Arrevillagas said, “We’re lucky to have a great venue here and we love to give people as much game time as humanly possible in the time we have.  Every team played 10 games of fast and fun softball on Saturday and the energy was great.  Thank you to the staff at Powerleague, who are always at hand to help these events run smoothly.”

BSUK North West Coach Linni Mitchell, who organised the tournament, said, “As usual, I’d like to thank the 16 captains, and of course all of the enthusiastic players who made the day so enjoyable.  A big thanks to our seven umpires who officiated 80 games over the course of the day.  And congratulations to Mavs, our reigning champs, who kept their title, and well done to the three other teams who topped their groups after some incredibly close and competitive games.

“Hopefully,” Linni added, “we’ll see you all for our next indoor tournament in December 2019.”
