BASU umpire Jana McCaskill has been selected by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) to umpire this summer at the 13th WBSC Under-19 Women’s Fastpitch World Cup, to be held from 11-17 August in Irvine, California.

The tournament is what used to be called a World Championship, but the WBSC now calls all such events contested by national teams World Cups.

This will be the second straight Under-19 World Championship/Cup for Jana, who was also selected to umpire when the event was last held in 2017 in Clearwater, Florida.

Unlike in 2017, the GB Under-19 Women’s Team will not be at the event, having failed to qualify at last summer’s European Under-19 Women’s Championship.  The European qualifiers were Italy, Ireland and the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands, which finished fourth, was later given a wild card entry to the tournament.

Jana said, “I am extremely honoured to be selected for the Under-19 Women’s World Cup.  When I attended the tournament in 2017 it was a brilliant event and experience, and I’m looking forward to working with and learning from fellow International umpires again.  I’d also like to thank Great Britain Softball and its members for their continued support.”
