If you would like to give softball a go, or join a softball team, then the New Players Day to be run by the Greater London Softball Mixed League on Saturday 16 April on Wandsworth Common is the perfect way to get started.

The day is designed for players of all abilities, regardless of whether you’ve been playing for years, haven’t played for a long time or never held a bat before.  The atmosphere will be very relaxed and there will be something for everyone.

Getting started

The New Players Day will begin at 11.00 am on Saturday 16 April on Wandsworth Common opposite The Hope Pub on Bellevue Road.  The session will be absolutely free!

For those who are brand new to softball, there will be an introduction to the game led by GLSML Development Officer Liam Morrison, and fielders’ gloves will be provided for those who need them.  The aim of this session is to get people up and running with the basics of softball and give them a taste of why it’s such a great game to play. Softball offers a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, learn a new sport, get some exercise and spend some of your summer evenings or weekends outdoors.

Matching players and teams

Another main aim of the day will be to match new players with existing league team in the GLSML, London’s largest open softball league.  Players will be introduced to teams that match their ability and geographical location as well as the level of competition they’re looking for.

After the introductory session for new players and some batting and fielding drills, there will be a friendly pick-up game to give all players a chance to show off their skills.  Then everyone will adjourn to the pub over the road for some hard earned refreshments!

If you want to attend the New Players Day, please get in touch with New Players Officer Abbie Gometz-Davies (newplayers@glsml.co.uk) to let us know that you’re coming.  And bring a friend -- the more the merrier!
