Following very successful first sessions for BaseballSoftballUK’s Slowpitch Academy, held indoors in West London on 27 April and 4 May, it has now been announced that the Academy will hold an outdoor session at Farnham Park on Saturday 22 June.

Instruction in batting, fielding and throwing will be delivered from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm, with a lunch break in between, and the cost for the day will be £25.

These sessions, like those held earlier in London, will be led by Robbie Robison, former GB Slowpitch Team player and Assistant Coach and currently Head Coach for the GB Under-18 Women's Fastpitch Team as well as Head Coach at both the Softball Academy and High Performance Academy.  The Academies are BaseballSoftballUK's established athlete training structures for fastpitch softball and baseball, designed to develop players on a performance pathway towards national team selection.

The sessions at Farnham Park on 22 June are aimed at any competitive slowpitch players who want to increase their skills and understanding of the game.  While there are no age restrictions on the sessions, the Slowpitch Softball Academy is primarily for adult players.

Testimonials

It was clear from responses to the first London session on 27 April, based on a carefully-designed programme of skills development, that there is a pent-up desire in the slowpitch community for more in-depth coaching.

Clair Bellens from the London Advertising League said, "It was inclusive, it was exhausting, it was amazing and I learned so much!"

Sarah Butcher, who plays in both the Windsor & Maidenhead League and the Greater London Softball Mixed League, said: "It's been a long time coming and I was really pleased that BSUK has created an opportunity for slowpitch players to receive dedicated coaching for the first time."

"There aren't many opportunities for players wanting to push themselves and access coaching at this level,” said David Hendy from the Windsor & Maidenhead League.  “The course was excellent."

Herling Alvarez from Bristol said, “Coach Robbie was very knowledgeable and helpful," and David Grindstaff from the Solent League added, “Saturday was fantastic and I’m really looking forward to the next session.”
