Researchers at Liverpool Hope University are looking for baseball and softball players with three or more years’ playing experience – both healthy athletes and those with a pre-existing shoulder injury -- to take part in a study investigating throwing techniques.

As part of the study, the researchers will be doing electromyography to identify muscle activation patterns as well as full-body kinematics to analyse movement during the throwing action.

Information from the study will be used to make recommendations for prevention and rehabilitation strategies in sports where overhand throwing is part of the game.

Testing procedures will take approximately three hours during a single visit and will take place in the Sports Science department at Liverpool Hope University.  Those taking part will be asked to carry out a repetitive throwing task, an ordinary household task and rehabilitation exercises.

Unfortunately, the researchers do not have the ability to pay travel expenses to get to Liverpool for the testing.

The plan for this study has been approved by the Liverpool Hope University Ethics Committee and the NHS Research Ethics Committee.  Those taking part will be required a consent form prior to any testing procedures and participants can withdraw from the study at any time.
