Mescalitos retain their GLSML Firstball title

Ten teams from the GLSML's top two divisions contested the GLSML Red Group Firstball, played on Saturday, May 14 at Riverside Lands in Chiswick. Admittedly, this report reached us from the GLSML some six weeks after the evening, but it's well worth reading. After a busy day of softball, it was Mescalitos who retained the title they won in 2011.

GB Women draw their final warm-up game

In their final warm-up game before play begins in earnest in the Elite Division at the Canadian Open Fastpitch Championships, the GB Women drew 1-1 in a fine game against a top California travel ball team filled with NCAA Division 1 college players.

GB Women start Canada tour with an easy win

On Wednesday, the GB Women's Team assembled in Vancouver, flying in from England and other points around the globe. On Thursday, the team held its first two practice sessions. And on Thursday evening, the team recorded its first competitive win of 2012 with an 8-0 scrimmage game victory over Peru.

GB Women head for Canada

The Great Britain Women's Fastpitch Softball Team arrived in Canada on Wednesday, June 27 to begin a summer tour that will include the prestigious Canadian Open Fastpitch Championships, scheduled for June 30-July 8 near Vancouver, and then the 13th ISF Women's World Championships, to be played in Whitehorse, in Canada's Yukon Territory, from July 13-22.

June 21, 2012 is the first national "Women's Try-a-Sport Day". The aim is to get more women involved in sport in their local areas before the London Olympics, and the British Softball Federation would like softball leagues to get behind this initiative.

Mid-week league softball returns to Birmingham

A new Birmingham Softball League will be launched on Thursday June 21. The league will be run for six weeks in an intra-club format, with support from BaseballSoftballUK, and the teams will be made up of new and existing members of the Birmingham Bobcats Softball Club.

Diamond Series 2 defies the weather again

Following torrential rain during the week leading up to Diamond Series 2 on June 9-10 at Farnham Park, the sun shone for the best part of both days, although the rain came back just in time for the finals.
