Britain wins some and loses some at ESF Congress

The British Softball Federation had three of its motions passed and one important motion defeated at the 37th European Softball Federation Congress, held from February 2-4 in Mellieha on the island of Malta.

BSF AGM adopts mandatory rule on game endings

Members at the 2012 BSF AGM, held on Saturday, February 18 in Manchester, voted to make a proposal on game endings in timed games mandatory in BSF-sanctioned tournaments in 2012. The proposal will mean that all games will play to a natural finish rather than revert. The meeting also discussed how the National Softball League might run in 2012, and saw the induction of 14 new members into the British Softball Hall of Fame.

Jennie Finch calls for softball’s Olympic reinstatement

While receiving an award on February 19 at the International Olympic Committee's 5th World Conference on Women and Sport in Los Angeles, two-time USA Olympic softball medallist Jennie Finch made a powerful call for softball to be reinstated to the Olympic Games.

British slowpitch teams invited to Bulgarian tournament in April

The BSF has received an invitation for British teams to take part in a Bulgarian Open Championship tournament to be played, probably in Dupnitsa, on the weekend of April 21-22.

BSF inducts 14 new members to the Hall of Fame

Fourteen new members were inducted into the British Softball Federation Hall of Fame in ceremonies held during the course of the 2012 BSF AGM on February 18 in Manchester. Included were five players, an umpire, three team managers and five administrators. All but two were inducted under new BSF criteria that allows election to the Hall of Fame for people still active in the sport if they have been active for more than 10 years in their nominated category.

BASU to propose standard rule for ending timed games

The British Association of Softball Umpires (BASU) held its 2012 AGM on February 11 in Bristol, with 13 members attending. One of the key decisions to come from the meeting was a proposal to standardise the ending of timed games in slowpitch tournaments, and this proposal will be put to the BSF AGM in Manchester on February 18.

ISF announces next two hosts for Junior Women’s World Championships

The International Softball Federation has announced that the next two Junior (Under-19) Women's World Championships will be held in 2013 in Brampton, Ontario (Canada) and in 2015 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (USA).

ESF to run European Softball Camp for young people

The European Softball Federation will be running the first annual European Softball Camp for young players aged 13-22 from July 1-8 in Chocen, a key softball town in the Czech Republic.

“Spring Into Softball” Sportivate course to be hosted by Leeds Dynamite

Leeds Dynamite Softball Club will be running a six-week softball beginners' course for players under 19 years of age on Monday nights in Central Leeds, starting on February 20, funded by Sport England through its Sportivate programme.
